Academic Policies
Some Policies to Remember
- A maximum of two total courses in the NR core, breadth, and/or option may be taken on an S/U basis
- Natural Resources degree students must earn a C- grade or better in upper division courses (300 and above) in the Natural Resources Core and Natural Resources Breadth areas. In other areas of the program, any passing grade is adequate, provided you meet other OSU GPA requirements.
Student-designed specialty options must:
- contain at least 25 credits of upper division courses
- consist of a minimum of 50 credits, encompassing at least three departments, with not more than 25 credits from one department
- have coursework that reflects stated knowledge and skill "goals"
- not come close to "duplicating" existing majors
Double Counting Course Work
A class used in the Baccalaureate Core (Bacc Core) may also be used to fulfill one requirement in the NR curriculum (the NR Core or the NR Breadth or the Specialty Option). This is the only kind of double counting allowed. Please check with your advisor if you are unsure about a course double-counting in your program.
Example
GEO 300 can be used:
- for the Bacc Core - Contemporary Global Issues (CGI) requirement OR
- for the Bacc Core - Science, Technology, and Society (STS) requirement
AND
- for the NR Core - Resource Economics requirement OR
- for the in the Specialty Option - NR Policy
GEO 300 cannot be used for both of the Bacc Core requirements or both of the NR requirements.
Prerequisites
Students are responsible for taking prerequisite classes or obtaining the consent of the instructor to bypass the prerequisite. Prerequisites provide the necessary background for specific courses. Students are encouraged to carefully review course requirements in the General Catalog and Schedule of Classes and plan ahead in order to meet class and class standing restrictions.
